On The Day

‘Come & Sing’

You need a team who will:

  • Mark out seating areas for the various voices (S, A, T, B) act as stewards for singers (at rehearsal) and audience (evening)
  • Organise Box Office if tickets are sold at the door (more people make last-minute decisions these days)
  • Sell / distribute programmes (see section)
  • Give out and collect back borrowed music scores
  • Make tea for singers / musicians during rehearsal
  • Deal with refreshments in the interval or catering before / after
  • Man Hospice publicity / promotional goods / hospice Christmas card stall
  • Volunteers to take retiring collection (where allowed)

Do not undercharge for tickets - they should be costed realistically

For Other Events / Concerts

The rules are pretty similar. Good publicity is the key and getting supporters to make up parties a great help. It’s a fact of life that many of your audience will make up their minds on the day and the weather cannot always be predicted. You may have to put out chairs/tables – it is essential that you have a good, fit, team to both put out and put away!

To make the occasion even more memorable try:

  • A candle lighting ceremony to remember those who have received care from the Hospice
  • Celebrity guest(s) to host the evening and speak on behalf of the Hospice, making a plea at the end for the retiring collection
  • An introduction before the performance, outlining worldwide participation, possibly with a large world map to indicate vast scale of event.
