Costs

Hire of venue - churches often waive or have minimal fees. If a school is organising the event on your behalf they, too, may be generous with hire charges. Always check that your venue is registered/insured for a public performance!

Musicians - if possible, conductors and soloists should be offered fees or generous expenses but they may waive them. A local amateur orchestra is likely to donate its services but musicians should be offered travel expenses at least. If the only musician involved is an organist, he should be offered an appropriate fee. (VfH has never asked people to conduct, soloists to sing or musicians to play for nothing and would like all organisers to maintain this principle.)

Printing & publicity – it’s nice when it’s free but expect to pay. No publicity – no audience!

Catering – good catering means a good reputation for next time.
